![]() Even till the day I left (which was about 7-8 months ago now), people still asked for 5$ footlongs. Working at Subway for 5.5 years, I was a manager as well. One or two stores in the area are going to get all the money, causing the other stores to close. And if everyone who goes to subway, does that. Cannibalism of stores is a thing!! If theres 5 subways in one location, youre going to find the best one of those stores and eat from there. Always has been that way and always will be. The owner of my subways actually had to close one of her locations because she wasnt making money at all from it, that store had been draining the other three stores for almost 3 years. One of the owners, my subway owner knew, he had 15+ subways opened across the way. ( i forget what word or phrase im trying to think of) but you get what I mean. And each and everyone of them could end up having a Subway in them, just because theres no protection against others from opening up closely to another one. So there could be a Fresh strip mall waiting to have all of its places filled. Mind you, theres no limit to how many Subways you can open in a location. The owner of mine owned 4 locations, all within a 15 minute radius of eachother. Most franchisees own more than ONE Subway. It’s how I got around my local subway not accepting coupons.Įven the Subway owner I worked for was a prime example of this. The other locations will soon be closed.Ĭaveat: if a location doesn’t accept coupons, put in an online order that has a digital coupon and the location has to make it. The chains that accept coupons are thriving because the coupons put the subs in a price range that the public is willing to pay for a Subway sub. Subway is the McDonald’s of subs and people want to go there but they don’t want to pay $9. If Im going to pay $9 or $10 for a sandwich/sub it’s going to be from a quality sub place. About 1,000 locations have been closing every year since 2015 in the United States alone. Subway killed themselves with the $5 footlong deal and until they come back with something similar sales will continue to decline. When the $5 went away and then eventually even the BOGO free footlong went away sales dropped and thousands of stores close every year. This caused locations to cannibalize each other’s profits. To the point where subway had more locations than ANY FAST FOOD CHAIN in the world. All the locations were profitable so a bunch of franchise stores started popping up literally everywhere. When the $5 footlong deal came out everyone started buying subs and sales increased like freaking crazy. Subway used to be any old sub chain with an average number of stores. ![]()
